Living the Liberated Life --by Rev. Audra Carson

Jesus was quoted as saying: "Go in through the narrow gate that leads to life. The gate to destruction is wide, and the road that leads there is easy to follow. A lot of people go through that gate." Mt 7:13

Growing up, I believed that this comment was in reference to a strict code of behavior that if adhered to, would amount to living a "good" life and the promise of salvation in the future.

I agree that the narrow gate leads to salvation. However, today I am certain Jesus used the analogy in referring to the Now.

Keeping yourself focused and fully present in the Now (the narrow gate) is not easy. That is because as a species, humans are still prisoners of our personal minds, the ego. This tiny segment of the universal Mind uses us. It dictates what our experience will be like. One of the ways it uses us is by seeing everything in terms of the past as a reference or pointing to the future -- almost all of the time. This mental habit completely disregards the Now. If you pay attention to your thoughts, you will be amazed at how true this is.

In contrast, if you think of the significant moments of your life you will realize in those moments, you were fully present in the Now. You were not lost in the commentary of the mind. You were able to glimpse what life would be like without the screen of the personal mind, which not only obscures the present (as well as His Presence) but actually dictates and colors what you will notice.

I had an interesting experience not long ago. I returned to a job I had five years ago. The amazing thing was the place was essentially the same, as if time had stood still. Yet, my experience was totally different because I am able to stay in the now. It's a physically taxing job, yet I felt light as a feather. I had a gracefulness and a sense of centeredness that had eluded me before. Time passed quickly and I had a very pleasant evening. When I am agitated or bothered, I ask myself, "Am I in the Now? Is my mind quiet as I look upon what is? Simply by noticing I am not fully present, I become more present.

When you are fully present in the Now, your perception changes and you literally look upon a new world. This innocent perception reveals the beauty and sense of wonder you had as a child and far more often, serendipity becomes your companion. Things begin to fall into place without any specific effort on your part. Jesus referred to this when he advised, "Seek ye first the Kingdom and all else will be added unto you." Mt 6:33

This "Kingdom" can only be revealed and appreciated in the Now. It was never hidden; it was always there, only you were absent because you were lost in the ego mind, which is too preoccupied with the past and future to truly see the Now.

When we worry, it is because the mind has projected to a future point (which is not here now) and wants us to be concerned with it. What God wants is for us to be here now; if there is "work" that is what it is. And if we are to do anything, the appropriate action will spring from our being when we are fully present. Because when we are in the Now, God is right there with us. In the state of Presence, we have instant access to the Universal Intelligence that rules the cosmos.

A Course in Miracles points out that "In order to judge anything rightly, one would have to be fully aware of an inconceivably wide range of things; past, present and to come. One would have to recognize in advance all the effects of his judgments on everyone and everything involved in them in any way. And one would have to be certain there is no distortion in his perception, so that his judgement would be wholly fair to everyone on whom it rests now and in the future. Who is in a position to do this? Who except in grandiose fantasies would claim this for himself?"

Indeed.

If peace is eluding you, if you feel you are missing something, that there must be something more, you are correct. Our entire economy is based on this universal sense of emptiness and incompletion. Every product/service is touted either as a distraction from this universal unease or as a remedy for it or its more acute symptoms. If only we had more money, a better partner, were more physically fit -- then we'd feel fulfilled. If only we could find the pill that eases the anxiety. However, I can almost guarantee: all that is really missing is the Now.

For the next week, become a keen observer of your mind. Notice how it is almost always in the past or looking to the future for a sense of fulfillment or salvation. Become the witness to its antics. Do not beat yourself up for it, as all of humanity suffers from this to one degree or another. By simply observing, you raise your own consciousness and it is the change in the collective consciousness that will, ultimately change life on this planet.

Gifts of Facilitation --by Rev. Lorraine Merritt

I awoke this morning, after what seemed like nonstop dreams all night, feeling groggy and not wanting to leave my bed. However, I knew I had a 7:30 a.m. correspondence facilitation with a student over the phone. It was 7:00 a.m. and I hadn't stacked the courses, paper and telephone next to me on the bed. It's a tough job, but somebody had to do it, I laughingly thought as I put my feet on the floor. A brushing of my teeth, washing of my face and a good cup of coffee put a little zip into me. Opening A Course in Miracles to the lesson of the day, I read, "I give my life to God to guide today." It brought an immediate awareness of Light and Love into my being. Groggy? No! Tough job? No! Eager? Yes! Ready to share being led by the Holy Spirit with the world? Yes!

My student called, just as eager and ready to share Holy Spirit's insights. In her review of some study material in Pathways of Light course 115: How to Be Loving, How to Be Loved, she stated, "I need not analyze every action or attempt by others. I will stay in my process without putting others in control of my actions." How powerful that was for me to hear. I have put this statement on a card and will refer to it whenever I feel that a reaction to another's action is necessary on my part. We had a wonderful sharing under the guidance of Holy Spirit, and I know that I am blessed by her presence in my life. What a wonderful feeling, to have this Gift.

Earlier this month, a student of mine from New Jersey was ordained here in Kiel, Wisconsin, having experienced the 11 day in-person training. I have no words to express the emotions and feelings I had while she was here, and at her ordination, along with seven other women. It is humbling to be involved with sharings of Holy Spirit and the accompanying miracles we all experienced. I know I am blessed by her presence in my life. What a wonderful feeling, to have this Gift.

Earlier this week, another student called. We had a moving and heartfelt sharing of Holy Spirit's Presence in each of our lives. We expressed much gratitude for the opportunity we had been given to be part of each other's lives, experiencing the Love and peace of Holy Spirit on a daily basis, without limit or restriction. The conversation left me feeling Holy Spirit's arms encircling me. I know I am blessed by her presence in my life. What a wonderful feeling, to have this Gift.

My newest student, a man from Pennsylvania, is a true pearl. The first evening, he remarked that he had been so filled with Holy Spirit for days, and he knew this decision was correct for him. He walks assuredly on his path, trusting Holy Spirit to guide and comfort him. I am so very grateful for the sharing that occurs with the guidance of Holy Spirit through this man. I know I am blessed by his presence in my life. What a wonderful feeling to have this Gift.

These examples above are just a taste of the miraculous experience of facilitating Pathways of Light correspondence courses and mind healing programs. I am renewed, revived, refreshed and even renovated on a daily basis. I am grateful that Holy Spirit has provided these Beings of Light and Love to share their blessings with me, following the guidance of Holy Spirit. With their presence, I travel on the Freedom Train. Thanks Guys.

The Latest Thing --by Rev. Deb Frantz

This past week I picked up the latest book by Alan Cohen called, Why Your Life Sucks and What You Can Do About It. Though it proved to be a fascinating read, the insight I received from this book occurred when I closed the cover at the end. What spoke to me was the Holy Spirit. I realized at that point that I could read all the books that I wanted to, A Course in Miracles included. I could listen to all the wisdom on tapes put out by spiritual folks. I could participate in our study group. Yet, if I did not read and listen to myself, I would come up still searching and still have nothing.

Wisdom comes from within. We each are the Alan Cohens, the Carol Howes, the Marianne Williamsons and the MDC Study Group Tapes. We can continue to look outside for our answers, for our peace. It is through looking within us where we will definitely find the answer. It is assured. It is given to us, for it is in us.

These books and tapes and other folks are just like us, on the path. They all have the same feelings and ego demands that you do. They are no different. Perhaps they know different. And so can we. We possess the greatest gift within our very souls. It is the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit lives and reigns in us. Do we allow ourselves the time to see Him there? Do we go within for what we seek?

Does this mean that I should stop reading and listening to others' works or stop coming to our group? Not entirely so. We heal when we share our experiences.

But… what do you place on the works, the groups? Is it where your happiness lies? Do you say, "I will feel better when I read this particular book or attend this particular seminar?" Are you drawn to whatever the latest spiritual thing is? Like walking a labyrinth, doing pilates, reading the latest self-help book on the shelves? If achieving your goal of happiness depends upon these discoveries, you will never find it. And you will be continue your voyage of trying to finding the latest thing to fulfill your needs.

All your needs are met from within. You have the answer to every question you have about your life, your situation, about you. Take some time to sit with yourself and find those answers. Grab a cup of coffee or herbal tea and sit out on the porch of your life and look beyond it all. See the beauty of your self flowers. Relish in the beauty. Drink it in for it is truly there.

You are as God created you. God does not live beyond you. God lives with you and within you. You can access Him anytime you choose. Do you choose? Your journey is as long as you want it to be. In reality, you have already arrived. You've never left Home.

The power is within you. The healing for yourself and your life has already been completed for you. Wipe away the dust and it is there. That was the point of our Healing Circle a few weeks back. We are healed, we are complete, we are whole. Once you recognize it, then you believe it so.

My friends, the latest thing is within you. That's the fad you need to follow. Accessing Holy Spirit's wisdom within. Become quiet, ask and you will receive the answers. Write your own 'bestseller self-help book' within, for you possess the knowledge to do so. God is with you always. You are already Home.

"How can you who are so holy suffer? All your past except its beauty is gone, and nothing is left but a blessing. I have saved all your kindnesses and every loving thought you ever had. I have purified them of the errors that hid their light, and kept them for you in their own perfect radiance. They are beyond destruction and beyond guilt. They came from the Holy Spirit within you, and we know what God creates is eternal. You can indeed depart in peace because I have loved you as I loved myself. You go with my blessing and for my blessing. Hold it and share it, that it may always be ours. I place the peace of God in your heart and in your hands, to hold and share. The heart is pure to hold it, and the hands are strong to give it. We cannot lose. My judgment is as strong as the wisdom of God, in Whose Heart and Hands we have our being. His quiet children are His blessed Sons. The Thoughts of God are with you." (T-5.IV.8)

Looking Within for Answers --by Rev. Nancy Schilli

Deb Frantz's message on The Latest Thing really spoke to me since this is what I've been working with for the last month and a half. I'm being guided to continually look within for the answers to help me build a greater conscious connection to God. On occasion, I tend to listen for Spirit's answer through others before I go directly to Spirit. I need to realize I have direct access. So this month and a half has been very rewarding. I am taking my two final classes for my MBA together (which I've never done before) and it is not overwhelming so long as I have my spiritual connection to God daily. If I miss this even one day, I'm restless and worried. I also tend to read a lot of other books, but now I try to read them as extra insight, another person's experience and thoughts, instead of reading to find answers.

I spend more time now on my garden, and as I pull weeds I ask God and the Spirits to help me recognize all the weeds in my mind and recognize them as they are small, since bigger "weeds" are harder to remove. I've always had lovely flowers, but at times they were overridden by weeds. I think of myself the same way, where I have my shining light of God within and always there but I cover it up with "weeds." I want to show my inner light, which doesn't always mean to be more light, but maybe to show more light by removing the "weeds" of untruth.
