Remembering Our Safety in Love

⁵Tolerance for pain may be high, but it is not without limit. ⁶Eventually everyone begins to recognize, however dimly, that there _must_ be a better way. ⁷As this recognition becomes more firmly established, it becomes a turning point. ⁸This ultimately reawakens spiritual vision, simultaneously weakening the investment in physical sight. ⁹The alternating investment in the two levels of perception is usually experienced as conflict, which can become very acute. ¹⁰But the outcome is as certain as God.

Spiritual vision literally cannot see error, and merely looks for Atonement. ²All solutions the physical eye seeks dissolve. ³Spiritual vision looks within and recognizes immediately that the altar has been defiled and needs to be repaired and protected. ⁴Perfectly aware of the right defense it passes over all others, looking past error to truth. ⁵Because of the strength of its vision, it brings the mind into its [spirit’s] service. ⁶This re-establishes the power of the mind and makes it increasingly unable to tolerate delay, realizing that it only adds unnecessary pain. ⁷As a result, the mind becomes increasingly sensitive to what it would once have regarded as very minor intrusions of discomfort. Spiritual vision shows us only the truth — the oneness of Love. Physical sight is part of the ego thought system which values anything that blocks awareness of Love’s Presence. The body is part of the ego’s plan to make separation and differences appear real and immutable. But only our investment in physical sight keeps the dream of separation in our awareness.

It is time to withdraw our investment in the dream. Now we need to apply our attention to look within to our true Self, which remains united with our Source. Here we recognize that we live in the unity of Love where harm is impossible. Peace of mind is natural.

Pain is now a signal that we need to shift our attention to spiritual sight. It is time to ask the Holy Spirit to help us let go of our investment in separation. He needs only our willingness to accept His help to bring healing to our troubled mind. With His help we will overlook the dream figures and see that we are safe in the oneness of God’s Love.

The Blessing of True Forgiveness

It is sin’s unreality that makes forgiveness natural and wholly sane, a deep relief to those who offer it; a quiet blessing where it is received. ²It does not countenance illusions, but collects them lightly, with a little laugh, and gently lays them at the feet of truth. ³And there they disappear entirely.

Forgiveness is the only thing that stands for truth in the illusions of the world. ²It sees their nothingness, and looks straight through the thousand forms in which they may appear. ³It looks on lies, but it is not deceived.

The strength of pardon is its honesty, which is so uncorrupted that it sees illusions as illusions, not as truth. ²It is because of this that it becomes the undeceiver in the face of lies; the great restorer of the simple truth. ³By its ability to overlook what is not there, it opens up the way to truth, which has been blocked by dreams of guilt. ⁴Now are you free to follow in the way your true forgiveness opens up to you. ⁵For if one brother has received this gift of you, the door is open to yourself. When we are disturbed by something, it is because we are perceiving something that is not really there. This perception occurs because we have accepted the idea that we are separate from God’s Love. We need help to recognize the fallacy of belief in separation.

This is why true forgiveness requires the Holy Spirit’s help. If we are willing to bring our perceptions to Him for reinterpretation, we will learn that what disturbed us is not real. With this recognition, we easily overlook what once disturbed us. We know it was nothing and let it pass by.

With forgiveness we see the world with the Light of Love. It shows us that we remain as Love created us, at one with every brother and with God. Nothing exists which can disturb our peace or interfere with the eternal flow of Love extending to Love.

Remembering the Condition of Our True Self

“I rest in God.” ²Completely undismayed, this thought will carry you through storms and strife, past misery and pain, past loss and death, and onward to the certainty of God. ³There is no suffering it cannot heal. ⁴There is no problem that it cannot solve. ⁵And no appearance but will turn to truth before the eyes of you who rest in God.

This is the day of peace. ²You rest in God, and while the world is torn by winds of hate your rest remains completely undisturbed. ³Yours is the rest of truth. ⁴Appearances cannot intrude on you. ⁵You call to all to join you in your rest, and they will hear and come to you because you rest in God. ⁶They will not hear another voice than yours because you gave your voice to God, and now you rest in Him and let Him speak through you.

In Him you have no cares and no concerns, no burdens, no anxiety, no pain, no fear of future and no past regrets. ²In timelessness you rest, while time goes by without its touch upon you, for your rest can never change in any way at all. Our true Self has never left the presence of God, being forever united with Him. Reminding ourselves, “I rest in God” is acknowledging our true state. This lesson reminds us the condition of our one Self that is eternally true.

When we identify with the ego, the conditions of our rest in God described here seem like wishful thinking, a fantasy that is out of reach. But truth dispels the ego’s illusions. This is why reminding ourselves that we rest in God is an important practice. It helps us shake loose from our mistaken identification with the ego.

This is not a fantasy. It is the truth about our Self now. This practice prepares our mind to forgive our illusions and accept the truth that we remain as God created us.

Joining with Our Brothers in Love

When you are still an instant, when the world recedes from you, when valueless ideas cease to have value in your restless mind, then will you hear His Voice.

Rest with Him frequently today. ²For He was willing to become a little Child that you might learn of Him how strong is he who comes without defenses, offering only love’s messages to those who think he is their enemy.

Take time today to lay aside your shield which profits nothing, and lay down the spear and sword you raised against an enemy without existence. ²Christ has called you friend and brother.

You have not lost your innocence. ²It is for this you yearn. ³This is your heart’s desire. …⁹Be still an instant and go home with Him, and be at peace a while. (A Course in Miracles, W-182.8:1;9:1-2;11:1-2;12:1-3,9. See also ACIM Lesson 182 Insights.)

The ego is always restless. If there is any quiet moment, it seeks to find some conflict to perceive or dwell on in its reserves of conflicting thoughts. The ego thrives on conflict.

But we always have a choice. We can choose to step back from the ego’s noise. We can quiet our mind and relax into the peace that is our true nature. In the stillness our mind is open to Christ’s vision which shows us the Love that is our natural habitat. In Love’s Presence we recognize the truth in every brother and join with him in Love.

Learning to See a Forgiven World

⁴Every thought you have makes up some segment of the world you see. ⁵It is with your thoughts, then, that we must work, if your perception of the world is to be changed.

If the cause of the world you see is attack thoughts, you must learn that it is these thoughts which you do not want. ²There is no point in lamenting the world. ³There is no point in trying to change the world. ⁴It is incapable of change because it is merely an effect. ⁵But there is indeed a point in changing your thoughts about the world. ⁶Here you are changing the cause. ⁷The effect will change automatically.

The world you see is a vengeful world, and everything in it is a symbol of vengeance. ²Each of your perceptions of “external reality” is a pictorial representation of your own attack thoughts.

…you are not trapped in the world you see, because its cause can be changed. ²This change requires, first, that the cause be identified and then let go, so that it can be replaced. (A Course in Miracles, W-23.1:4–3:2;5:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 23 Insights.)

All of God’s creation is His extension of His Love. His extensions remain one with their Source. The wish for specialness is an attack on the unity of His love. There can be no differences in What remains eternally one. This is why the ego thought system of separation is an attack on the oneness of God’s Love.

When we identify with the ego, our thoughts of individuality are attack thoughts. These thoughts are the cause of the world we perceive. As we practice taking all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit, we are learning to replace our misperceptions with the true perception of our oneness, given us by the Holy Spirit. This practice is how we change our mind about the world. It leads us to see a forgiven world where Love is accepted as our true Reality.

Accepting God’s Loving Protection

God is with me. I live and move in Him.

God is with me. ²He is my Source of life, the life within, the air I breathe, the food by which I am sustained, the water which renews and cleanses me. ³He is my home, wherein I live and move; the Spirit which directs my actions, offers me Its Thoughts, and guarantees my safety from all pain. ⁴He covers me with kindness and with care, and holds in love the Son He shines upon, who also shines on Him. ⁵How still is he who knows the truth of what He speaks today!

Father, we have no words except Your Name upon our lips and in our minds, as we come quietly into Your Presence now, and ask to rest with You in peace a while. (A Course in Miracles,W-222. See also ACIM Lesson 222 Insights.)

We do not need to die to rest in peace. We only need to accept our Identity as eternally one with our Father. He is the only Source of true peace. He is the Source of our Life. No matter what appears in the dream of separation, our true Identity in God remains undisturbed.

For any thought that disturbs our peace of mind today, we remind ourselves that we rest in God. We live in His Love, along with all our brothers. No one is excluded from the sure protection of His Love. The Love we are shows us the Love that is the truth in everyone. As we let this truth fill our mind, conflict and differences fade away. We remember we live in Love eternally.

Finding Joy in Our True Identity

²I am as God created me. ³His Son can suffer nothing. ⁴And I am His Son.

⁴Deep in your mind the holy Christ in you is waiting your acknowledgment as you. ⁵And you are lost and do not know yourself while He is unacknowledged and unknown.

Seek Him today, and find Him. ²He will be your Savior from all idols you have made. ³For when you find Him, you will understand how worthless are your idols, and how false the images which you believed were you. ⁴Today we make a great advance to truth by letting idols go, and opening our hands and hearts and minds to God today.

We will remember Him throughout the day with thankful hearts and loving thoughts for all who meet with us today. ²For it is thus that we remember Him. ³And we will say, that we may be reminded of His Son, our holy Self, the Christ in each of us:

⁴I am as God created me.

⁵Let us declare this truth as often as we can. ⁶This is the Word of God that sets you free. ⁷This is the key that opens up the gate of Heaven, and that lets you enter in the peace of God and His eternity. (A Course in Miracles, W-110.6:2-4;9:4–11:7. See also ACIM Lesson 110 Insights.)

This practice is part of the Course’s plan to reverse our thoughts about our identity. As we acknowledge that we are as God created us, we are accepting that we are eternal Love, and nothing else. As we incorporate this message in our thoughts about ourselves, the false beliefs about our identity are let go.

Today we claim the Love that created us as our true Identity. We gratefully accept the peace that is an attribute of our Identity. Our hearts are filled with joy as we recognize our brothers are one with us in our shared Identity as God’s one Son.
